Suspect arrested in Atlanta firing that killed one and injured four
Police captured the alleged gunman, linked as 24- time-old man, and say all five people shot in sanitarium structure were women
Authorities restrained the alleged gunman, who they linked as 24- time-old Deion Patterson,
Wednesday evening, north of the megacity in suburban Cobb county after an expansive manhunt.
The firing unfolded just after12.30 pm in a waiting room on the 11th bottom of the Northside sanitarium in midtown Atlanta,
a marketable area with office structures and high- rise apartments. A 39- time-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene,
Darin Schierbaum, the Atlanta police chief, said. The four injured victims were also women, periods 25, 39, 56 and 71.
The injured women remained in critical but stable condition Wednesday night, Charles Hampton Jr, the Atlanta police deputy chief, said at a news conference late on Wednesday.
Police say Patterson was visiting the sanitarium for an appointment and was accompanied by his mama.
He began firing shortly after he arrived and the firing lasted about two twinkles, officers said.
His mama wasn't injured, police said. Patterson’s family is presently cooperating with authorities, they said.
After leaving, Patterson went to a Shell gas station and took a volley truck that had been left handling and unattended, authorities said.
The US Coast Guard said that Patterson was a former member of the association. Patterson
“Entered the Coast Guard in July 2018 and last served as an electrician’s mate alternate class”.
He was discharged from active duty in January 2023, the agency said, adding that it's nearly working with authorities in the disquisition.
Minyone Patterson, Patterson’s mama, said her son had “some internal insecurity going on” from drug he entered from
the Veterans Affairs health system that he began taking on Friday. He'd wanted Ativan to treat anxiety and depression, but the VA would not give it to him, she said.
“Those families, those families,” she said, starting to cry. “They ’re hurting because they would not give my son his damn Ativan.
